Another grant proposal – for Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Adult services, a continuing program, in cooperation with the Bozeman and Livingston Job Service offices, has been completed and submitted to the Montana Department of Labor. Adults with barriers to employment are served under this grant source.

Remember that you can see a Job Service Workforce consultant at the CWCTC building at 189 Arden Drive on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1-5 p.m. All of the same services provided in Bozeman are available for those who may find it more convenient in Belgrade.

An interesting web site for employment: disneycareers.com. They are promoting employment, especially for veterans. Search under jobs for all areas from administration and animation to creative and business development. Positions range from full-time, internships, seasonal, temporary and part-time.

Free business counseling by a SCORE counselor may also be scheduled through Career Transitions. SCORE is an SBA partner and counselors are volunteers. The local Bozeman SCORE chapter is celebrating their 40^th anniversary and offering special free workshops. Tom Egelhoff, SCORE member, speaker, consultant and radio personality will be at Career Transitions at 189 Arden Drive in Belgrade on April 17 from 11:30 – 1 p.m. His presentation topic is: “Advertising in a Recession. How to Say More and Spend Less.” There is no charge, but seating is limited. Tom has had his book: “How to Advertise and Promote Your Business in Your Own Backyard,” published.

GED Testing Service Files Federal Suit to Protect Consumers

Washington, DC – Consumers are being deceived by fraudulent online “schools” offering high school credentials that have little or no value. GED Testing Service has filed a lawsuit to stop this abuse and protect those seeking to further their education.

These programs advertise widely on search engines and falsely promise a quick way to obtain an “alternative” high school credential, using the GED trademark to lend credibility to their scams.

The GED® test must be taken in-person at an official GED® testing center. Those individuals successfully passing the complete battery are issued a credential directly by the state where the test is taken. If the credential is not issue by the state, it is not associated with the GED testing program and is unlikely to provide any benefit to those seeking better jobs or admission to college.

Every state has its own rules, so check with the issuing agency. There are major changes in the GED® testing requirements, process and cost that will begin in 2014.

As a project of CT, The Gallatin Valley Farmers’ Market provides a venue for marketing local products, crafts and products throughout the summer. Year-round opportunities for vendors were begun when CT acquired the montanafarmersmarket.com domain name in operation since 2003. In this 40^th anniversary year of the market, the organization has launched a revamp of the site and allowed current vendors a categorical listing through this market season. Vendors have the opportunity to add links and “splash pages” featuring their products with photos, etc.

Ron de Yong, director of the Department of Agriculture, says, “We get the biggest bang for our buck if we help consumers know about these local products…then consumers are encouraged to shop locally for Montana’s farm products, providing a big assist for our state’s economy and rural communities.”

Develobling Studios, a full service design and web creation firm, has provided the new design and set-up for the market site. Amy and Walter Graham, owners and designers, who both grew up in Belgrade and Big Sky, recently returned to Montana from Denver. They have been serving the non-profit, construction and retail web design needs for the past 18 years.
