This curriculum is intended to explain methods to make your system more secure, keep your data more safe by backing it up, and avoid most performance degradation attributed to some applications and SPAM.  This class would provide some basic information about hardware, operating systems, and programs in the first half to help the students understand information covered in the last half regarding files, brief e-mail and computer security practices. This curriculum may vary depending on the student's level of knowledge.

Topics:

  1. How some file types can be used by third parties to gain control of your computer.
  2. How to modify your file view settings so you are not as easily fooled by e-mails containing viruses.
  3. How to prevent viruses and worms.
  4. How to reduce SPAM.
  5. How to back up your files.
  6. How to reduce or eliminate unwanted programs that could reduce your system performance.
  7. What to do if you receive a virus or worm.
  8. What to do if you receive an e-mail telling you that an e-mail you sent contained a virus.
