bulletJanuary 28, 2005 Career Transitions gets grant for college - level training

A Belgrade Non-Profit was awarded a grant to help people who have exhausted its education by earning a certificate or degree. Career Transitions was awarded a $35,000 grant to assist up to 15 people with costs of higher education beyond its basic services - including keyboarding, computer and Internet training - so they can continue their education at the Montana State University Great Falls College of Technology extension in Bozeman.

People who qualify can have their first three classes paid with the grants, said Eleanor Wend, the program coordinator.  The goal is to get students headed towards a career path that will land them a job in the Gallatin Valley.

Students must meet criteria to qualify for the money, said Jane Arntzen Schumacher, Career Transitions employment training manager and career counselor.  People who qualify for funding generally have low incomes, disabilities or were out of work for extended periods of time.

Thanks to the grant, students of all ages who master the skills taught at Career Transitions are having success at the next level, Wend said.  They are getting associate's degrees, certificates and learning skills taught at technology workshops.  A few people have already found professional jobs.

Career Transitions was recently designated southwest Montana's nucleus for people seeking job training and employment.  It's now a one-stop center for a variety of career services in the region and the Montana Job Training Partnership designates it only the second such location in the state.

Besides its collaboration with the university's extension in Bozeman, Career Transitions is coordinating with the Bozeman Job Service, Livingston Job Service and Human Resource Development Council to meet the needs of job seekers.  It also shares resources with other non-profits to provide career training, adult education and child care to people in the area.

Career Transitions moved in August to its new location in iPark.  The new location has a computer lab, media room, board room and library for clients.  The library hold literature and brochures on career information.

January 30, 2005 Career Transitions offers training class

Career Transitions will offer a three-week job training session in February featuring career counseling and job preparation for men and women.  The program will focus on basic computer, resume, cover letter and interviewing and people skills.  Upon completion of the program, a scholarship will be awarded to a qualified individual for additional classes at the Bozeman Technology Center.  Registration deadline is Monday, February 7.  For information contact Career Transitions at 388-6701.
